We have to make our voice heard.
One goal I would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice would be to help children unlearn some of the stereotypes they have already formed. I have found a wealth of materials that can assist me, books, materials and also individuals. It hard to believe we have completed another class. I'm very PROUD and THANKFUL to each and every one of you. I hope we will be able to continue on this journey together. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Thank you as well for contributing to my professional growth and learning. I feel the same, we have been provided with many new resources to help in our work. We have a great opportunity to bring about change.

ReplyDeleteI like that you called diversity a gift. It really is a gift to all of us. Experiencing differences makes life so much more interesting and when those differences come into our lives it's like opening a new present.
Hi Lillian I love your goal which is to change the stereotypes they have already formed. This is so important in our field because I use to be one of those people into I learned better and a great mentor showed me because children learn from their parents so if they are racist or any other form of "ism" children will pick that up and be just like their parents who is not knowledgable, or unedcuated. Maybe one day we will not have to worry about redirecting children in regards to stereotypes, but I think in order to reach this goal we have to educate adults too. Have a wonderful holiday and best of luck as we move on to the next course.
